
Gary Wimsett, Jr., has spent more than a decade representing a variety of individuals and institutions in Florida. At Flanagan & Marchewka, LLP, Mr. Wimsett is using his broad experience to focus on sports law and corporate law issues for individual and institutional clients. His recent contract negotiation on behalf of a company selected as one of a national publication's “Top 100” growth companies is indicative of the level of sophistication he brings to the field. Of course, he brings this same level of intensity and focus to deals between individuals and large corporations. He is also a Principal with the Pharos Lighthouse Group, LLC, an international consulting firm working on a variety issues as varied as risk and security analyses to international sponsorship deals for healthcare events and symposia.
After spending six years as the Associate Director in the Senior Vice President for Health Affairs' Office of Contracts and Related Services for the University of Florida J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center, there are not many contract negotiation strategies Gary hasn't ethically utilized to protect his clients' interests. He's a respected and effective dealmaker. He works hard to make sure that the terms of the negotiation are accurately reflected in what ends up on the page. He prefers to draft all his clients' documents from scratch – to ensure they're custom tailored to the precise needs of his clients.
In addition to his work for the University of Florida, Mr. Wimsett served as the Senior Legislative Attorney for the Florida Senate Committee on Regulated Industries. In this capacity, he worked closely with Florida 's Senators, Senate staff, citizen groups, and industry stakeholders on crafting sound and precise legislation in the areas of telecommunications and utility regulation. While at the Florida Senate, he was selected to serve as a Special Master on Claim Bills. Mr. Wimsett has worked on a number of complex regulatory and legal issues as an insurance defense and regulatory lawyer in private practice. He's been an advocate for indigent defendants as an appellate practitioner before the First District Court of Appeal and he's provided pro bono legal counsel and served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Ronald McDonald House of Gainesville, Inc.
He received his B.A., with Honors, in English Literature, from the University of South Florida, in 1993. He graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1997, where he served as the Associate Articles Editor of the Florida Law Review. He is a member of the Florida Bar, and is also admitted to practice before the Federal Court of the Northern District of Florida. His wife, Mary Katherine, is a prominent adoption law attorney in Gainesville, and his seven-year old daughter, Emma, is one of the fiercest negotiators he's ever come up against.
