
David Higdon works as a sports business management consultant and communications specialist based in Jacksonville, Florida. His current and recent clients include UNICEF, ESPN The Magazine & ESPNTheMag.com, Jennifer Figge’s Atlantic Ocean swim project, Paul Newman’s Hole in the Wall Camps, Sports Business Journal, Heartland Park Topeka and Gold Marketing Group. He recently was appointed a member of the 2009/2010 U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) National Committee on Collegiate Tennis.
In 2007, Higdon served as Executive Vice President, Strategic Development and Communications for the Champ Car World Series. He led business activities surrounding the historic unification of U.S. open-wheel racing, as Champ Car successfully merged with the IndyCar Series in early 2008. Higdon previously served as Senior Vice President, Communications at the ATP, the governing body of men’s professional tennis, where he worked for eight years.
Prior to the ATP, Higdon lived in Portland, Oregon, where he worked as a writer, publishing articles in The New York Times, InStyle, Self, Shape and Men’s Journal, and provided miscellaneous services for The New York Times Event/Sports Marketing division. He also served as Editor-in-Chief for the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers official publication (and Associate Producer for its affiliated television program).
Higdon began his professional career as a reporter in Indianapolis and Chicago before moving to New York City to work in magazine publishing, where he served as an editor at The Runner, American Health and Tennis magazines. He graduated from Kalamazoo College in Michigan with a degree in Political Science and English, and foreign study experience in Italy. He lives in Florida with his wife Sharon and two children.
